This ones in great condition, the dial especially and I actually really like this watch! I bought it second hand to practice taking apart and cleaning movements, after I master Pocket Watches.
The world of horology is vast and diverse, with each watch telling a unique story. Among the myriad of timepieces available, this Raketa Copernicus Gray Dial USSR 35mm with a 2609.НП manual wind movement stands for its distinctive design and the condition of the dial for it’s ago (1980s).
The name Raketa, meaning “rocket” in Russian, was chosen to commemorate Yuri Gagarin’s historic journey into space. The brand quickly became synonymous with innovation, durability, and affordability, producing watches that were designed to withstand the harshest conditions.
The Raketa Copernicus, introduced in the 1980s, is a nod to the revolutionary astronomer Nicolaus Copernicus. Its design is a celebration of his heliocentric theory, which proposed that the Earth revolves around the Sun. This watch is a tribute to scientific discovery and the spirit of exploration that defined the Soviet era.
The hands of the Copernicus are unlike any other. They are designed to represent the orbits of the planets, with a small circle on the hour hand and a larger circle on the minute hand. As they move around the dial, they create a constantly changing pattern, reminiscent of celestial bodies in motion. This design not only pays homage to Copernicus but also makes each glance at the watch a unique experience.
The 35mm stainless steel case strikes a perfect balance between vintage charm and contemporary wearability. Its compact size makes it suitable for a variety of wrist sizes, while the domed acrylic crystal adds a touch of retro elegance. The case back is adorned with the iconic Raketa logo, a reminder of the watch’s proud heritage.
At the heart of the Raketa Copernicus beats the robust and reliable 2609.НП manual wind movement. This movement, produced in-house by Raketa, is a testament to Soviet engineering. Known for its durability and precision, the 2609.НП features 19 jewels and a power reserve of approximately 40 hours. Its simple yet efficient design ensures that the watch keeps accurate time, even in demanding conditions.
